Abstracting the Figure with Patt Scrivener
Join Patt for a creative adventure in contemporary figure painting. In this workshop, students will learn how to see, interpret and use techniques in order to create looser figurative paintings. Students will work from a photo reference and intuition. Students will be encouraged to focus on shape, edges, value, texture, composition, juxtaposition, technique, artistry, individuality and the application of materials. All mediums are welcome; however the focus will be Acrylic, collage and mixed media. The course is recommended for the adventurous beginner as well as the painter with experience. Come prepared to leave your expectations at the door and be ready to take risks as you embrace abstracting the figure.
Price of workshop includes Day 2 attendance at the Connections Conference. Lunch and coffee breaks included for the 3 days.

Patt Scrivener AFCA is an experimental mixed media artist living on the West Coast of Canada in Parksville BC. She started her career studying interior design and teaching Floral Design at Olds and Mount Royal College. Always musically and artistically inclined she moved on to art.
Today Patt works in many mediums including acrylic, encaustic and cold wax with oil. Her work includes imagery of people, landscape and abstraction. The layering of a variety of media offers an assortment of possibilities within her work; colour, line and texture all play a role within her imagery. Her work is about the process – she loves layering, scraping, sanding, pouring and dripping. She uses many unorthodox tools and loves visits to the hardware store. She loves the spontaneous movement and creates bright and lively imagery. She says, “ Be passionate about what you paint”.
