This year to celebrate culture in Canada for 150 years we are making “ Connections” within our community and nationally with other FCA chapters. We are in collaboration with Okanagan School of the Arts at the Shatford Centre during the Penticton Arts Council’s multi-venue Festival “Arts Rising”. We will be hosting a national juried show for any FCA active member and a conference that is open to the public. This ambitious undertaking is planned and presented by the Federation of Canadian Artists – South Okanagan Similkameen (FCA-SOS) through its volunteers.

The Okanagan Valley is rich in culture and in particular, rich in talented artists. FCA-SOS is a community of artists from Summerland, Penticton, Naramata, Kaleden, Okanagan Falls, Oliver, Osoyoos, Keremeos, Cawston, Princeton and Rock Creek that includes emerging artists and seasoned professional artists. Activities include: monthly meetings, demonstrations, critiques, juried and non-juried shows, workshops and promoting artwork.

This is the first time that the FCA-SOS has hosted a national show and we are hoping to have entries from across the country from FCA members, which totals over 2500 members Canada wide. The art community is strong in the Okanagan and there are many talented artists. The paintings have now been selected and will be installed at the Shatford Centre from Sept 22- Nov 3rd,2017.  The opening reception will be on Friday, September 22 from 6-8pm. There will be prizes awarded under several categories.

The Shatford Centre will be providing the participants with culinary delights throughout this affordable four-day conference with cuisine prepared in their Rotary Community Learning Kitchen. The demonstration day Sept 22 will highlight a variety of techniques that six demonstrators are proficient in. The Penticton Plein Aire Group host painting in the open air. These events will be of interest to everyone. There are 3 workshops being presented Sept 23,24 with talented Canadian Artists for more in-depth techniques.
